Ben Powdrell is an editor, vfx editor, writer and producer with over 20 years experience in television, theatre and film production. He has worked as editor on numerous film projects including Feature Documentary LA VERDAD, short films DIE LIKE A SHARK and STRANGER. 2023 will see the release of Ben’s edited feature films RED WHITE AND BRASS (Piki Films), RIVER OF FREEDOM (Braided River Films) and 1978 (Clarative Media). Ben's television highlights include editing political satire FACELIFT, Emmy and Qantas award winning drama series RESERVOIR HILL and a number of documentary series with the Gibson Group.

Working with long time collaborator Dean Hewison, Ben co-wrote and produced theatre shows FOOTBALLISTIC and HYPNOTASTIC, starring Cohen Holloway and the Fringe Award winning radio comedy series OUT OF BOUNDS SOUNDS. In the 2017 Fringe Festival Ben wrote and performed autobiographical comedy show DILF with wife Francesca Carney and directed by Dean Hewison.

Ben has spent a number of years working as a visual effects editor at Weta FX on numerous feature films and television shows (BFG, AVENGERS: INFINITY WARS, GAME OF THRONES Season 7&8, SHADOW IN THE CLOUD, THE BATMAN) and before Weta, Ben was senior editor, writer and content producer on THE HOBBIT behind the scenes webcontent and extended edition documentaries. 

In 2020 Ben completed his M.A. in Creative Writing (Scriptwriting) from Victoria University of Wellington’s International Institute of Modern Letters. In 2021 Ben was commissioned to write a series of digital animated books LITTLE BIG THINKERS for Rascality Media. The two animated stories and short films directed by Jaimee Poipoi will screen at the 2023 10th Maoriland Film Festival 2023
